✨ Fibrotherapy – What Is It and Why Am I Talking About It? ✨
You know me I don’t share treatments unless I’ve tried them myself and think they’re worth talking about. Recently, I had a tester session of fibrotherapy with Kellie Girdwood of The integrative Therapist https://linktr.ee/TheIntegrativeTherapist, and it really impressed me.
What is Fibrotherapy?
Fibrotherapy is a hands-on therapeutic technique that works directly with your fascia — the connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, nerve, organ, and bone in your body.
Kellie used only her hands (no machines) to gently but firmly work through my:
Back
Neck & shoulders
Head
Stomach
The aim? To release fascial tension, improve circulation, encourage lymphatic flow, and calm the nervous system.
Fascia & The Vagus Nerve
One part of the treatment that really surprised me was when she worked on my stomach. At first, it felt a bit strange — it’s not often someone massages your abdomen! But she explained she was targeting the vagus nerve, which runs through the gut and plays a huge role in switching the body into “rest and digest” mode.
And I could really feel it. What started as unusual soon felt amazing, like my system had been given permission to let go.
My Personal Results
The difference for me was noticeable:
✨ My pain was completely gone for nearly two weeks.
✨ I could go walking — pain free — which I hadn’t been able to do for ages.
✨ My energy felt a little better too (a big deal when fatigue is part of daily life).
I’m already planning another session to see how consistent the benefits are, especially around my fatigue levels.
From a Nurse’s Perspective
Fibrotherapy makes a lot of sense to me physiologically. Fascia can get tight and restricted, which contributes to pain, stiffness, and even fatigue. By working on fascia, you:
Improve blood and lymphatic flow.
Reduce pain and restrictions.
Support the nervous system (especially through vagus nerve stimulation).
It’s not a quick-fix cure, but as part of a broader lifestyle medicine approach — movement, sleep, stress support, nutrition, it’s a powerful complementary therapy.
Who Might Benefit?
People with chronic pain or stiffness.
Those with fatigue or burnout who need nervous system support.
Anyone carrying tension in their back, shoulders, or neck.
Women navigating menopause (fascia, stress, and energy all shift during this stage).
Final Thoughts
Fibrotherapy is not fluff. It’s a thoughtful, evidence-informed, hands-on therapy that really surprised me with its impact. For me, two weeks of being pain-free speaks volumes.
If you’ve been curious about fascia, pain relief, or ways to support your vagus nerve and nervous system — I’d say fibrotherapy is definitely worth exploring.
